Spring and Autumn Tour 2004
Three pieces of compelling choreography fusing live dance, music and film from Biserk Dance Company.

L’empreinte dans le Jardin
Choreographer Hervé Robbe 15 min duet (2001)
L’empreinte dans le Jardin was created in residence at the Centre Choreographique National du Havre, Haute Normandie, France.
A beautiful and demanding duet, moving and lyrical in Hervé Robbe’s unique cutting-edge style with music by Ravel.

Odd Positions (Set to Three Pieces of Music)

Choreographer Nickely Burke, duration 16 min (2003)
Odd Positions (Set to Three Pieces of Music) was created during a residency at the Pegasus Theatre, Oxford. The work was funded by South East Dance Agency as part of ‘Moved’, a project supporting regional choreographers.
The piece is a continuing exploration of the skeletal composition of the body, made up of articulate detail, quirky mannerisms and strength. Underlying this investigation is also an interest in humanity and communication through clashes and also co-operation.
Created using a mainly abstract vocabulary, the structure nonetheless offers a narrative to the audience, who are left to make their own decisions about what they see.

One Third of A Picture
Choreographer Nickely Burke, duration 35 min (2004)
A truly collaborative work between three artists; choreographer Nickely Burke, composer Christian Alexander and digital artist Kasia Howard.

One Third of a Picture fuses live dance with digital film set to a specially created score that explores, amongst other themes, the sensation of moving through, in and out of water.
The piece takes its inspiration from sites of architectural interest, and particularly Roman Baths. Exploring classicism the dancers recreate statuesque poses as they carve intricate patterns with their hands and feet, covering eyes, twisting limbs and jutting grabs and lifts. Throughout the piece childlike qualities emerge, from children’s voices singing nursery rhymes to dancers chasing one another in a competitive but innocent manner.
We see a girl submerged in the water, who is she? And what is her relationship to the dancers on stage?
